Ingredient Spotlight: Animal Umbilical Cord Extract
March 26, 2026“Peptides” are amazing! How did collagen’s perfect partner become a “precision missile” against aging?
March 26, 2026As time passes, we all long to preserve the youthful appearance of our skin. Let’s step into the fascinating world of regenerative aesthetics together and uncover the secrets of youthful skin.
What is regenerative aesthetics?
Regenerative aesthetics is dedicated to restoring the structure and function of soft tissues to a youthful state, thereby positively impacting medical aesthetic outcomes. As we age, the structural composition of the skin and soft tissues undergoes subtle changes; collagen and elastin levels decrease, and the skin loses its elasticity and radiance. Cellular aging, changes in signaling pathways, and the activation of inflammatory pathways also affect soft tissue function. Regenerative aesthetics uses creative intervention methods to reshape soft tissue structure and function, achieving more natural and healthy aesthetic results.
What are regenerative biological signals?
The ability to reactivate youthful processes within soft tissues falls under the category of regenerative biological signals. There are various forms of biological signals, such as autologously prepared platelet-rich plasma (PRP), conditioned serum, commercially available combinations of non-autologous growth factors, stem cell-conditioned media, and extracellular vesicles (EVs). We will focus on PRP and EVs; PRP is a commonly used biological signal in aesthetics, while EVs are emerging in the field of microenvironment optimization.
What Is PRP?
In medical aesthetics, PRP is obtained by concentrating autologous platelet-rich plasma through centrifugation and then injecting it into the target soft tissue. It contains important wound-healing proteins and various growth factors, such as VEGF, EGF, PDGF, TGF-β, and adhesion molecules. These growth factors promote improvements in tissue function. PDGF stimulates fibroblast mitosis and angiogenesis, and works with other growth factors to increase collagen production. Multiple studies have shown that PRP, as a standalone treatment, can improve skin tone, texture, firmness, and patient satisfaction. However, due to its autologous nature, the efficacy of PRP varies among individuals and diminishes with age.
What Are EVs
EVs (exosomes) are lipid-enveloped nanoparticles containing various biomolecules, such as growth factors, cytokines, messenger RNA, and microRNA. They serve as carriers of paracrine and autocrine cellular signaling, and their RNA content plays a significant role in regeneration. EVs derived from young, healthy cells carry biochemical “instructions” for youth and regeneration. Studies have found that EVs secreted by umbilical cord-derived pluripotent stem cells can promote fibroblast proliferation and migration, angiogenesis, and even modulate collagen expression. EVs generated from human induced pluripotent stem cells can reverse age-induced changes in aged skin fibroblasts.
The Relationship Between Animal Umbilical Cord Extracts and EVs
Animal umbilical cord extracts are rich in EVs and contain natural components such as small-molecule peptides, free amino acids, and vitamin A complex, as well as hundreds of active nutrients and signaling molecules. They play a key role in comprehensively conditioning the skin, improving skin texture, and preventing aging, and can rapidly repair the skin barrier to restore a youthful, healthy, and vibrant state. Extensive research indicates that animal umbilical cord extracts, placental peptides, and placental extracts all possess excellent efficacy in repairing tissue damage, promoting metabolism, and delaying skin aging.
Regenerative aesthetics has opened the door to rejuvenation for us. Let us embrace the power of regenerative aesthetics together and let our own beauty shine.
